Want to design, build, and give life to a team of cutting-edge robots?

UBC Thunderbots is an entirely student-run team dedicated to creating a fleet of autonomous soccer-playing robots to compete at the annual international RoboCup competition. Our 60+ students tackle both the technical and administrative aspects of many projects, gaining a valuable university experience that cannot be provided in the classroom. We regularly meet one evening a week as well as on Saturdays to work on projects together.

UBC Thunderbots prides itself on being highly competitive and finds its success in an environment of multi-disciplinary teamwork, mentorship, and student-directed learning. All skill levels are welcome! We recruit across many different disciplines, from first years to graduate students, and engineering to arts. All we ask for is that you have dedication, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to learn about robotics. The technical projects are highly involved, but when accomplished, are very rewarding.

FAQ

Do you hire outside of September?

Thunderbots operates on an annual hiring cycle - so no. Due to the nature of our competition, hiring throughout the year would result in a loss of knowledge acquired and take away crucial time from our design cycle. Applications are usually open near the first week(s) of September!

Should I apply as early as possible?

Yes! Thunderbots operates on a rolling basis. The earlier you get your applications in, the better you have a shot at an interview. (That doesn't mean we don't have long-time members who submitted their application at midnight...)

I'm not confident about my skills. Should I still apply?

Absolutely - Thunderbots welcomes folks with a wide range of preexisting skill levels. A big deciding factor for us is your level of commitment, as we prioritize members who can contribute long-term in accordance to our design cycles!
